How should workshop policies differ during COVID-19 disruption?

An example: For Instructor Training, we normally ask that trainees re-take the workshop if they miss more than 1 hour of a training event. There are reasons for this – we really do want to be sure that all Instructors have been fully trained! However, 2 full days of undivided attention are impossible for many at this time.

In what other areas do we need to re-think our policies, and in what ways should we modify them to preserve the quality of our program while accommodating the needs of our community?

With regard to Instructor Training:

  • At this time we are being more lenient with regard to make-up efforts. Trainers have the power to exercise their judgement with regard to what constitutes a reasonable accommodation. Carpentries staff Trainers are available to help trainees get caught up with missed content if that option is helpful.
  • We also hope to schedule 4-half-day workshops as a pilot, to see if these work better under the present circumstances.
