Are there ways we can equip Instructors to support learners with sensory impairments while teaching online?

Online training introduces new challenges and opportunities with regard to accessibility. Are there specific recommendations we can make in this area?

Our Instructor Training curriculum currently points people here. Maybe there are a few particularly valuable key points we could share?

Anecdotally related: at a recent online Instructor Training workshop, we had a trainee tell us at the end of Day 1 that white backgrounds caused them to get migraines. On Day 2, we were able to switch to a Google Doc and create a black background.

It’s worth noting that we would have been better off with this information beforehand, but do not currently inquire about accessibility needs in our pre-assessments or trainee emails for Instructor Training. Our template emails for Instructors teaching technical workshops do include an accessibility question, but these are not specific to online workshops.

Agreed @karenword, we might want to add/adapt our template emails… it might also be beneficial for in-person workshops as well.

Are there any other resources specifically from people who are hard of hearing or visually impaired that we could use? I’d love to come up with a list of specific recommendations based on real experiences.
